Freethought ... or Not

Hitchens on Celestial Serfdom: Authors@Google

Hitchens is a very articulate man, and in light of the fact that the videos of him at the AAI conference are gone from YouTube, have a listen/watch to this hour long talk he gave at Google. Kudos to them for bringing him in to give the talk.

Planting more than just trees north of the 49th parallel

I haven't heard the term before, but apparently there is a movement afoot to plant "10,000 new churches by the year 2015" in Canada. The group formed itself in 1997, so after 10 years I wonder how the plan is going.

If you think it sounds crazy, take a look at their chart titled New Churches Needed to Disciple Our Nation. I wonder if the The Prayer Palace North was a planted church, hmm.

Life of Jesus: An Alternate Interpretation

If this interpretation of the life of Jesus were to be proven true, it would set Christendom on its ear. Many interesting questions are raised in this 26 minute video from the BBC. Well worth the time investment.

Theory of Evolution - Reminder

As per Hemant's suggestion at The Friendly Atheist, I'd like to take the opportunity to remind people that there is no credible scientific challenge to the theory of evolution. It needs to be said over and over, again and again, until it is accepted as truth by those that think otherwise. Say it out loud and pass it on.

There is no credible scientific challenge to the theory of evolution.

Mel Brooks: The Last Supper

Now this is priceless:

Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians

Mr. Condell always has more to say about Christianity. You've got to just love the man. Listen to his latest rant.

This Sunday: Root of All Evil Townhall Debate

A bit of a mixed bag today. From the archives at The Big Picture with Avi Lewis, there's a town hall meeting which features Richard Dawkins via video link debating religion with a number of prominent Canadian religious figures. It's worth watching to see the evangelical Charles McVety, of Canada Christian College, thoroughly ripped by Mr. Lewis around the 25:00 minute mark. Listen for the audience's negative reaction to McVety's biblical simple-mindedness. Mr. McVety's nonsense warrants a future This Sunday post.

Last week's edition of This Sunday featured a link to an article by Stuart Laidlaw entitled After gym class, God 101 in the Toronto Star. The Centre For Inquiry published a letter of response to the article by Major Neal Matthews stationed in Afghanistan.

And from, Colombia, South America comes the cry that has my full support, Creationism Must Be Eradicated.

Support For Secular Public Education

What a great title to this open letter in today's Toronto Star: Have faith in public education . Oh, and the letter says it pretty well.
